Le protesi dentali sono utilizzate per sostituire la dentatura originaria persa o compromessa. Esistono protesi fisse e rimovibili. La protesi fissa non può essere rimossa dal paziente. Viene generalmente costruita in ceramica, con o senza un rinforzo interno in lega d'oro. Le corone (o capsule) ricoprono il singolo dente, opportunamente preparato, mentre i ponti sostituiscono uno o più denti mancanti, ed appoggiano sui denti limitrofi. La PROTESI MOBILE può essere parziale o totale. Le protesi parziali si ancorano tramite ganci o attacchi ai denti residui, e se comprendono una struttura metallica interna vengono definite "scheletrato", mentre le protesi totali, generalmente costruite in resina, sostituiscono tutti i denti.

Dental prosthesis are used to replace lost or compromised teeth. There are fixed and removable protheses. The Fixed Prothesis cannot be removed from the patient; it is generally built of ceramics, with or without an internal reinforcement in gold league. Crowns (or capsules) cover the single tooth, opportunely prepared, while bridges replace one or more missing teeth, and lean against the neighbouring teeth. The Mobile Prothesis can be partial or total. The partial protheses anchor themselves through hooks or attacks to the residual teeth, and if they have an internal metal structure are defined "scheletric", while the total protheses, generally built of resin, replace all the teeth. |
